Hornby The Cunarder Limited Edition Train Pack

Details

Since the days of the Southern Railway and before the Second World War, special trains called 'Ocean Liner Specials' operated to carry the passengers from the ocean liners that docked at the railway's Southampton Docks to London Waterloo. By 1952 British Railways had decided to give the more prominent boat trains to Southampton Docks special names one of which was 'The Cunarder'. It was made up of Pullman cars and would depart from the Southampton Ocean Terminal with passengers from the RMS Queen Elizabeth or RMS Queen Mary, which were the mainstays of the Cunard Line transatlantic service to New York. The train was more often than not pulled by a Bulleid 'Battle of Britain' class steam locomotive similar the model included in this pack. This prestigious boat train, which was inaugurated on the 2nd July 1952, continued to operate until the retirement of the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth in the late 1960s and the demise of the ocean liners. 'The Cunarder' is a limited edition of 1200 packs with each containing a numbered certificate. BR 4-6-2 Rebuilt Battle of Britain Class '213 Squadron' locomotive. 2 x Pullman 1st class parlour cars.
